Project: A bilingual advantage in cognitive development? A study of Spanish-English Bilingual Children in New Mexico
About Quil del Villar Seguin
Numerous studies have found evidence of a bilingual advantage in cognitive development. This project investigates New Mexican pre-schoolers' language and cognitive development to determine if this advantage is present, and if the effect is more pronounced in certain executive functioning tasks. It is anticipated the findings from this study will advance our understanding of how bilingualism impacts cognition. Furthermore, if certain bilingual experiences, such as extensive code-switching, yield a bilingual advantage, this could inform educational resources and recommendations for child language development.
