Project: Uranium & Heavy Metal Content at Red Water Pond Road Community
About Madison Shindler
My research in Fall 2023 will focus on uranium and toxic metals that are present in the agricultural soils of the Red Water Pond Road Community near Gallup, New Mexico. By studying the mineralogy and geochemistry of the collected soil samples, I will help members of the community understand potential health threats and how mining has affected their land. I am hoping to raise awareness about solving Environmental Injustice, as well as gain new research skills from my mentor that will help me throughout my undergraduate career.
