Alexi received her PhD from the Department of Biology in 2022 and is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University. When researching potential PhD programs, Alexi chose UNM because of the opportunity to work in one of the largest stable isotope facilities in the United States, “I came to The University of New Mexico specifically to work in theCenter for Stable Isotopesbecause I wanted to use stable isotopes to study food webs.” Her passion for this field, as well as her experience at CSI, has led her to novel discoveries on topics ranging from themammalian gut microbiome's role in host protein metabolismto microbial biofilm and macroinvertebrate feeding dynamics in submerged leaf litter in the Rio Grande.
