About Shohini Ghose

Shohini Ghose is a Professor of Physics and Computer Science at Wilfrid Laurier University and the Chief Technology Officer of Quantum Algorithms Institute. She holds the NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering (ON) and was the founding Director of the Laurier Centre for Women in Science. Her research focuses on quantum computation and communication, and she and her colleagues were the first to experimentally observe a connection between chaos theory and quantum entanglement. Her recent article on quantum computing was featured in the Harvard Business Review’s Year in Tech 2022. She has helped to develop Canada’s National Quantum Strategy and is a member of the national Quantum Advisory Council. 

Ghose is the first person of colour to be President (2019-2020) of the Canadian Association of Physicists, and has served as Co-Editor in Chief of the Canadian Journal of PhysicsShe currently sits on the Scientific Board of the UNESCO International Basic Science Program. Ghose was the first Canadian member of the Working Group on Women in Physics of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), and helped create IUPAP’s Waterloo Charter on equity, diversity and inclusion in physics. She is a popular speaker, and her online videos have received over 5 million views.

Ghose is the recipient of several awards, including a TED Senior Fellowship and selection to the College of the Royal Society of Canada in 2017. She has co-authored the bestselling astronomy textbook, ASTRO, and is the author of the book Her Space, Her Time: How trailblazing women scientists decoded the hidden universe. She is an Affiliate of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and a Fellow of the Balsillie School for International Affairs.
