Chicana & Chicano Studies to feature singer and scholar Tomás Lozano

as-ccsThe Instituto Cervantes Albuquerque and The University of New Mexico Department of Chicana & Chicano Studies will feature singer and scholar Tomás Lozano at the Maxwell Museum's Hibben Center for Archeology Research this Friday, Oct. 6, from 3:30 to 4:40 p.m. at the UNM Hibben Center for Archaeology Research This event is in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and is free and open to all. No tickets are required, first come first served, but registration via Eventbrite is appreciated.  

Lozano is a Hispanic artist who will showcase his latest project, Presence and other poems of José Emilio Pacheco, a musicalization of Mexican poet José Emilio Pacheco’s select work. It was originally commissioned in 2021 by the Cervantes Institute of Chicago to honor Pacheco’s legacy. 

The event will consist of a short screening of the documentary Presencia Eterna, as an introduction to the poet, followed by a live concert in which Lozano will sing in Spanish interspersed with reading in English by Rima Montoya, the translator and declaimer of the poems.
