About Elaine Mitchell
My research focuses on documenting unique vowel qualities within New Mexican dialects of English, and how these vowel pronunciations vary by demographic. I am passionate about breaking down the barriers that Spanish-speaking New Mexicans face in education and healthcare, as well as preserving and affirming oft-looked-down-upon New Mexican linguistic dialects of Spanish, Spanglish, and English alike. This research would allow me to inform work in my community, and examine the intersections between cultural heritage and language.
