Project: Farming in the Gallina Area: Exploring Varied Agricultural Strategies in a High-Elevation Environment

About Isabella O'Donnell-Silfverberg

I am researching the agricultural practices of the Gallina, an Indigenous culture that inhabited present-day northwestern New Mexico from approximately 1100 C.E. to approximately 1300 C.E. I hope to learn more about what kind of agricultural techniques the Gallina people were using and the strategic locations that they chose to farm, to better understand cultural adaptations and resiliency in this high-elevation, low-precipitation environment. I am grateful for the Gallina Research Institute for Indigenous Technology and Dr. Michael Graves for supporting my research.
