This research project focuses on the effect of bilingualism on the use of demonstratives across bilinguals' two languages. Demonstratives are words like 'this' and 'that'. The study employs a puzzle task to elicit demonstratives from adult Spanish-English bilinguals in Albuquerque, New Mexico and investigates what patterns bilinguals adopt when describing a particular puzzle piece with a demonstrative. This study has important implications for our understanding of bilinguals' conceptualization of space as well as the effect of bilinguals' language dominance on their language usage patterns.
