Jason is a second-year undergraduate student at the University of New Mexico where he is majoring in Economics and minoring in Management. He is currently in conducting research under the supervision of El Puente Research Fellowship.

In order to combat the problem of disadvantaged high school students lacking resources for their education, the creation of college-readiness and support programs came to be in order to help prepare students for the college level curriculum. Among these programs, came the creation of federally funded TRIO programs, which are offer students’ academic and social support through advising and mentoring throughout their academic journey. His research question pertains to whether students who participate in college-readiness and support program experience more academic success, graduate at a faster rate as opposed to academically similar students who do not participate. This topic is important to him as he has been a TRIO program participant for 6 years and is currently working as a peer coach for Student Support Services – TRIO at UNM.
